Cheri Anderson

A "songstress" whose divine love of music performance has touched the hearts of many.

I am a song stylist who combines Contemporary Jazz and R&B with inspirational lyrics.   I call  it "Jazzin' the Spirit".  My message is about love and inspiration.  My performance focuses on targeting the presence of love in our every day lives.

Cheri Anderson, Song Stylist, artfully blends classic Jazz, contemporary Jazz, and R & B, with lyrics that are rooted in love.  Each song, be it original or standard, is belted with the smoothness of Nancy Wilson, the huskiness of Phyllis Hyman, and the lows of Sarah Vaughan, in a range that reaches five octaves.

Growing up in Cincinnati, this young songbird lead various choirs, bands, and ensembles prior to her eighteenth birthday.  While attending Kentucky State University, she performed with Funk-a-fied Band and Show, which produced artist Reggie Calloway of Midnight Star.    During this time the band opened for Earth, Wind, and Fire, The Jimmy Castor Bunch, Tavares, and Donald Byrd and the Blackbyrds.  They also toured the Midwest, Kentucky, and Tennessee.

Cheri moved to California where she studied jazz composition, voice, and acting at San Francisco State University.  Music opportunities took her to Boston, MA where Cheri studied at the African American Performing Arts Center and landed a role in the theater production, "Black Nativity" as soloist.  She ventured to Cincinnati before going back to California and studied acting at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park and voice at the Music Art Center.  Back in California, Cheri accomplished songwriting and vocal production broadening her experiences, that lead to her becoming a BMI songwriter .

Performing with various groups at Festivals and Concert Stages, in cities across the country, Cheri has garnered critical acclaim and adoration of many Fans.

Gifted in singing, songwriting, producing, and teaching, Cheri has performed on radio, television, and in corporate board rooms, endorsing brand name products.  Having these experiences under her belt, Cheri has moved gracefully into performing as a Solo Artist.

Cheri has performed with Benny Maupin of "Head Hunters" fame, jammed with Roy Ayers, Jennifer Lewis, and Billy Mitchell.  She's opened for Nancy Wilson, Maxi Priest, and Phil Perry.  Patrice Rushen produced the projects that introduced the direction Cheri focuses on today.
